The Eden Project (2000 – 2003)
Rebecca Earley and Gary Page
A group project involving TED, the creative team at the Eden Project,
and scientists from Bristol and Reading Universities (Spindigo Project).
Outcomes include a yurt installation and garden designed to tell
the story of indigo dyeing and the woad plant, costume design, natural
dye workshops and fashion recycling.
On Loom Finishing Effects (1999 - 2003)
Philippa Brock
An exploration of woven structures and techniques that finish the
fabric on the loom, reducing the likelihood of subsequent chemical
finishing.
HiTec LoTec and CAD: Tool or Tutor? (2002)
Gary Page
A project that explored digital printing and embroidery in the UK
and India, producing work for sale at Indigo, Premier Vision, Paris.
Material (2002)
Rebecca Earley and Dr Kate Fletcher
A project that explored ways to make more sustainable decisions
when designing fashion textiles, focussing on re-use, production
techniques and re-design.
Altered States (1997 - 2001)
Anne Smith
A project that proposed to investigate the potential of using industrial
engineering technology (water jet cutting and laser cutting) to
create low impact textiles. The later research focused on laser
cutting and etching fabrics for the interior textiles market.
Waste Not Want Not (1999 - 2000)
Jane Walker
A project that used paper yarns and waste paper from domestic shredding
machines to develop insulation fabrics for homeless people.
Radiotherapy Treatment Gowns (1999)
Rebecca Earley
A public art project for a new cancer wing at Birmingham’s
Queen Elizabeth hospital, involving the creation of 100 hand printed
gowns.
HyperHall (1998)
Rebecca Earley and Gary Page
A catwalk and installation event in Copenhagen with six British
and six Danish designers. Earley created a collection of recycled
womenswear and Page co-curated and art directed the event.
T-Shirt Interactive, The Challenge of Materials Gallery,
The Science Museum (1997 - 1999)
Jackie Herald, Kate Fletcher and Lorna Bircham
A project that explored the lifecycle of a t-shirt, for an interactive
exhibit in the Challenge of Materials gallery, at the Science Museum.
The exhibit won the IVCA Gold Award in April 1999.
