Kathy Round is a textile designer and Senior Lecturer in printed textiles at Chelsea.
Round’s own research and practice centres around the making of collaborative artists books and the cultural, regional and historical differences of hand-made textiles and garments. She has been involved in an ongoing collaborative project with artist John Bently, sourcing and cataloguing hand-made fabric, knits, crotchet, and embroidery collected nationally from charity shops and car boot sales.
Most recently, Round has been exploring how new digital print and imaging technologies could offer new possibilities for discarded and worn garments. For Ever & Again (2007) she produced a series of new garments made from digital prints of old favourite clothes and in collaboration with Melanie Bowles for Trash Fashion (2010) at the Science Museum, created an evening dress made from a digital print of a vintage dress.
