Catherine Frere-Smith (BA 2011)

Catherine has created a series of print designs based on her childhood in the English countryside that also incorporate a long-life element for the garment's second life.

Based on a toile de jouy pattern concept, Catherine has created delicate drawings of her house and the surrounding flora and fauna, that were developed into prints. The wearer is also encouraged to re-use the garments, as a pattern for the fabric to be made up into several stuffed fabric objects including a bird and a house, is printed on the reverse side of the garment.

Catherine was also a Runner Up in the TFRC/VF Future Fashion Textiles Competition, with a design concept for a denim brand based on her illustrations, with a series of detachable pockets that can be customised and used on different denim garments.
