Beatrice Moys discusses her 'digital craft' approach to designing printed textiles.

Studio project

My work is concerned with the combination of the ‘hand’ and the digital within design. Merging hand-crafted and traditional techniques with the ‘perfection’ of digital and machine technology retains a craft aesthetic within digital printing. Through playing and experimenting with wooden pieces it generates varying sequences and compositions which when photographed can be manipulated, built into new blocks, repeated and cut into new shapes using the computer as a tool. In using different types of wood, from MDF to veneers to balsa wood, it produces diverse surfaces in which to paint and cut into.
